Obsidian Energy operates a contiguous and extensive acreage, with substantial resources in place, in the heart of the Peace River Oil Sands region. Obsidian Energy is currently progressing on our three\-year plan, with plans of reaching 50,000 boe/d in 2026\. The increase is expected to be driven primarily by the development of our Peace River Heavy Oil assets, which are forecasted to more than triple (from 2023 volumes) to 24,000 boe/d in 2026\. **The Role** **Contract Field Operator** Full Time Location: Peace River, AB Posting Close Date: Until Filled Obsidian Energy has an excellent opportunity for a contract field operator in the Peace River operating area. Working in a high paced, high energy work team, the primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to effectively provide for the safe and cost\-effective operation and maintenance for our wells, gathering systems, and process facilities. The operations team ensures the superior performance of mechanical, instrumentation and facilities by implementing cost efficiencies and maximizing production. The successful candidate must be willing to work extra hours and be on\-call as required. **Responsibilities** *Duties include the following, but are not limited to:* * Manage and maintain day\-to\-day operation of oil wells, single well batteries, centralized processing facilities, solution gas gathering and compression in compliance with Obsidian Energy policies, codes, standards, procedures, and practices, in addition to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of any governmental authority having jurisdiction, including but not limited to the following: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, Workers’ Compensation, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Alberta Energy Regulator * Compliance with safety policies and procedures is the responsibility of every employee and contractor and is a condition of employment * Comply with the Obsidian Energy Peace River training program and EHS Leading Indicator reporting requirements * Comply with production accounting utilizing PVR * Contribute to successful daily execution of the business plan (ie. production volume targets, health, safety, environment, OPEX, reliability) by identifying opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime * Provide equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, housekeeping, and performance monitoring * Provide training and mentoring for team members to assist in completion of assigned production tasks that require additional competencies or in\-depth problem solving * Supply labour, transportation, communication, and hand tools required for operation and maintenance of the wells and facilities including: o 4X4 truck in safe, reliable, and good mechanical condition. (Supervisor reserves the right to request a 3rd party inspection at any time) * Equipped with fire extinguisher, tow strap or approved rope, \& first aid kit * Diesel must be equipped with Positive Air Shutoff if diesel truck is parked within 25m (75ft) of a well o Cell Phone (including airtime and long\-distance charges) o 2\-way radio for some radio\-controlled roads o Personal Protective Equipment as per Obsidian Energy requirement (Obsidian Energy may supply, at the discretion of the hiring leader) o Standard tools that contract operators shall carry: ½” drive socket set o Set combination wrenches – 3/8” to 1 1/4” o Pipe Wrenches – 1x18”, 2 x 24” o Hammers – 1 ½” brass, ball\-peen, claw o Shovel, Rake, Axe and 5\-gallon bucket (Forest Protection Area requirement) o 30’ tape measure o Pliers – 12” water pump, 7” needle nose, side cutters and regular o Full set screwdrivers o Wire Brush o 24” pinch Bar o Set Allen Wrenches o Crescent Wrenches – 1\-8”, 2\-12”, 1\-18” o Booster Cables – 15 foot in length o Hydraulic Jack – 2 Ton o Set Chisels \& Punches o Hack Saw with 2 spare blades o Aviation/Tin Snips (Center Cut) o 10” Vice Grips o 10” Metal File o Utility Knife o Small Torpedo Level o 3/8 Tubing Benders and Cutters o Medium Size Putty Knife o 10” Packing Puller o Explosion Proof Flashlight o Reflective Emergency Triangles – 1 set with 3 triangles **Qualifications** * Previous oil and gas operating experience or other related trades experience an asset * Possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment * Self\-motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work in an unsupervised work environment * Strong troubleshooting and problem\-solving skills * Strong computer skills (proficient in MS Office Suite) * Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License * Possess and maintain the required pre\-employment safety training: (Note: recertifications post\-hire will be covered by Obsidian Energy) o Standard First Aid / CPR / AED o H2S Alive o Confined Space Entry and Basic Rescue o TDG o WHIMIS (provided on site) * Additional safety training would be an asset: (and may be provided later at supervisor’s discretion) o Ground Disturbance Training \- Level 201 Supervisor Training o Chainsaw Safety Training o NORMS Testing Training * This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to the relevant requirements of the Obsidian Energy Alcohol and Drug Policy which includes pre\-assignment testing * Must supply own truck, tools, WCB coverage, $2MM commercial general liability and automobile insurance, mobile phone with cell booster, and standard PPE (a 4 head monitor will be provided by Obsidian Energy) * Must operate under a fully incorporated or limited company and provide a GST number * Must be eligible to work in Canada **How to Apply** Obsidian Energy is more than just a place to work \- it’s a community of professionals who are truly committed to the continuous evolution of the company and have interest in its success.
